As I look back through my photo archives I realize how much I miss taking photos on a daily basis. It was like a daily exercise, but exercising my creativity and mind. But with so much juggling going on right now between real estate and innkeeping, something had to be put on the back burner and photography it was. So I just wanted to post a few of my favorite flower photos, just something about the natural lighting and Mother Nature’s detail…

This is the Rosa Rugosa bush (flowers not present in this photo) and the red bud you see are rose hips. Bokeh is a photographic term for the desired quality of the blurred section of a photograph (the highlighted out of focus circles)

My friend Kate gave me a cutting of this plant from hers which was hitting the ceiling in her dining room. This is the first bloom – it’s about 7 inches in diameter and smells incredible!

Many visitors to Maine often wonder what flower or species of rose this is – it’s the Rugosa Rose and originated in Asia. The small, cherry tomato-like buds are Rose Hips, which are actually a fruit. The rose petals do not grow from these hips as many would suspect and often they appear on the plant simultaneously. They can be found all over Maine.
